What are cookies?

Cookies are text strings that websites visited by users (so-called "publishers") or other websites or web servers (so-called "third parties") place and store on the user's device, so that they can be retransmitted to those websites on subsequent visits. (Taken from: Italian Data Protection Authority - Cookie FAQ)

What are they for?

Cookies are used for various purposes: performing computer authentication, monitoring sessions, storing information on specific configurations regarding users accessing the server, storing preferences, or facilitating the use of online content, such as tracking items in a shopping cart or information needed to fill out an online form, etc. But they can also be used to profile users, that is, to "observe" their behaviour, for example, to send targeted advertising, measure the effectiveness of the advertising message, and adopt resulting marketing strategies. In this case, we speak of profiling cookies. (Taken from: Italian Data Protection Authority - Cookie FAQ)

TECHNICAL COOKIES

They are generally necessary for the proper functioning of the website and to enable navigation; without them, you may not be able to view pages correctly or use certain services. For example, a technical cookie is essential to keep the user logged in throughout their visit to a website, or to store language and display settings, etc.

They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or operator. The installation of these cookies does not require the prior consent of users.

These cookies are divided into:

·         Essential Cookies, Strictly necessary for the functioning of the Site. Without the use of these cookies, some parts of the Site would not function. They include, for example, cookies that allow access to protected areas of the Site. These cookies do not collect information for marketing purposes and cannot be disabled;

·         Session cookies, which are deleted immediately when the browser is closed;

·         Persistent cookies, which—unlike session cookies—remain in the browser for a specific period of time. They are used, for example, to recognize the device connecting to the site, facilitating user authentication;

·         Analytical cookies, similar to technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site;

·         Functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate based on a set of selected criteria (for example, language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided.

PROFILING COOKIES

These cookies are designed to profile users and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user during browsing.

THIRD PARTY COOKIES

These cookies are designed to profile users and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user during browsing.

Are analytical cookies technical cookies?

Analytics cookies can be considered technical cookies if used for website optimization purposes directly by the website owner, who may collect aggregate statistical information on the number of users and how they visit the website.

If, however, the processing of such statistical analyses is entrusted to third parties, user data must be minimized beforehand and cannot be combined with other processing or transmitted to other third parties. Under these conditions, the same rules regarding information and consent as those for technical cookies apply to analytics cookies. (taken from: Italian Data Protection Authority - Cookie FAQ)
